Different types of music videos

There are 3 main types of music video. Performance, narrative and abstract.
Performance based videos
These are videos that feature the band or artist is shown to be performing the song, this could take place in various locations such as  a live concert, in a studio or outdoors. Green days music video for American Idiot shows the use of performance. This video is almost entirely made up of shots of Green Day performing their song, as if they were playing it live. However instead of having just a standard performance video, they have used different speeds throughout the video, which makes the video more interesting and exciting to watch. Performance videos are seen more in rock videos.

Narrative Videos
Where the aim of the video is to tell a story. The story shown can sometimes relate to the lyrics or meaning of the song so that the audience remember the song and that it creates more of a meaning. The artistes often appear as actors in the video. In the video Wake me up when September ends by Green Day, the narrative is highlighted because the music stops so the audience can hear dialogue with the characters. This draws the audience in more and makes them want to watch it right through to the end so they can see the conclusion.

Abstract music videos
Where the video features an abstract interpretation of the music. The artiste may not actually appear in the video. The video doesn't necessarily have to make sense. Mad world by Gary Jules uses everyday costume, settings, props however it challenges the norm. This video doesn't rely on editing to make it look good.

In my video, I plan to use performance intertwined with a narrative, so this way the audience can see the artist perform and follow a story so that it is more interesting to watch.
